Gmail now lets you edit Office documents from email attachments

Gmail now lets users edit directly in Gmail attached files with Microsoft Office files. Google allows Google Docs or Sheets files already. Previously documents had to be imported into Google Drive to edit or modify them.

On the other side of it emailed attachments were only able to be viewed. Now you can open directly and edit an Office file using the Google Docs editor by simply clicking on it.

The new edition does not convert Office files into Google Docs, what it does instead it is preserving the original file format. You can respond to the original email and include the now in Office file format file without first requiring that you download and then re-attach the updated file.
