Apple now blocking downgrades from iOS 12.5.1

Apple has now stopped the signing of iOS 12.5 which is available for older iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch models. The company released iOS 12.5.1 for these devices last week which had bug fixes for the COVID-19 exposure notification feature.

Apple still offers security updates for devices like the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 as they cannot run iOS 13 or 14. On January 11, 2021, iOS 12.5.1 came with bug fixes and even more security improvements.

Apple has now stopped signing the previous iOS 12 update, that means users can no longer downgrade from iOS 12.5.1 to iOS 12.5 were reverting to older iOS builds is common for those users with jailbroken devices.

Even when experiencing bugs restoring an iPad or iPhone to a previous version of iOS can sometimes be helpful to some users. So if you have experienced some issues with iOS 12.5.1 you will have to wait for a future update when it is available, unfortunately.
